In recent years, Tangxia village in Maoming has been developing rural specialty industries to promote its rural vitalization efforts.

A year ago, the construction of the Danjiaxu project began, promoting the development of local culture and tourism.

Walking through Danjiaxu, visitors will pass a leather shoe street. Previously, resident Pan Fuguo's shoe factory was one of the more than 300 leather shoe factories in Yanjing in the mid-1990s. However, that number gradually declined over time and Pan had to leave the village to find employment elsewhere. So, he returned to his hometown to resume his previous career after seeing the promising changes in the village.

"The factory is now mainly engaged in single processing, with an annual output of 10,000 pairs of shoes. Now with the leather shoe street, the factory can expand its sales channels both online and offline," Pan said.

After all the Danjiaxu market projects are completed, the village's collective income will also be diversified and is expected to exceed 30 million yuan ($4 million) during the 20-year lease period.

"Since the Danjiaxu project began, the village has become popular," Wu Mei a waitress in Danjiaxu, said. She added that during holidays, the restaurant she works at has a turnover of tens of thousands of yuan per day.
