The China Overseas Chinese Investment (Guangdong) Conference was held in Guangzhou on Feb 25, attracting more than 450 overseas Chinese businessmen. Among them, five overseas Chinese businessmen from Maoming participated.

Chen Quanguang is the general manager of Shenzhen Yitongda Supply Chain. In 2021, he returned from Malaysia to invest in Dazhai village, Baishi town, Xinyi, a county-level city in Maoming.

"Our company expects to carry out two projects in Xinyi this year," Chen said. "Xinyi is the hometown of longevity. It is suitable for living and working, with a good business environment and many opportunities."

This year, Chen set up a planting base spanning 3,000 mu (200 hectares) devoted to growing lotus seed paste and sweet potatoes in Baishi town's Dazhai village and Fulong village. It is expected to increase villagers' incomes and employment opportunities.

Liang Zhaoming, general manager of Guangdong Ruiheng Group, returned to Maoming in 2008 to invest in a variety of industries, including real estate, agriculture and forestry, cultural tourism, as well as health care.

"The China Overseas Chinese Investment (Guangdong) Conference has attracted overseas Chinese from all over the world, reflecting the advantages of Guangdong's investment environment," Liang said.

"The Maoming government gives a lot of preferential terms and great policy support to the tilapia and lychee industries, with a strong focus on deep processing and brand building."

In 2013, Liu Jiajian, chairman of Maoming Liutao Jewelry Creative Industry, returned from Hong Kong and invested more than 2 billion yuan ($289 million) in Liutao Creative Industry Park in Dianbai district.

"Over the years, many enterprises that have invested in factories in the Pearl River Delta have returned to Maoming, while many people who worked abroad have returned," Liu said. "Maoming has a strong geographical advantage and has been connected with RCEP member countries, which has enabled overseas Chinese to accelerate their investments in the city."
