Huazhou, a county-level city in Maoming, held the first Gaoliang food competition for female chefs at Huazhou Vocational and Technical School on Feb 28.

A total of 18 female chefs participated. "I'm excited to represent my hometown. I would like to thank the organizers for providing such a great platform to showcase Gaoliang food outside of Maoming and even Guangdong," said Sumi Su, a contestant in this competition.

The judges of the competition said that the dishes presented by contestants were innovative and promoted the inheritance of folk cooking skills, because they were made in combination with Gaoliang specialty ingredients.
