Maoming to plant 2.75m mu of spring crops

Maoming plans to plant 2.75 million mu (183,333 hectares) of crops this spring, of which 1.6 million mu is assigned for grain and 1.46 million mu is for rice.

Maoming will strengthen its supervision and inspection of spring plowing preparations and will follow up on grain production in various regions. Maoming has sufficient agricultural material supplies, such as pesticides, fertilizers, agricultural film and seeds for spring plowing. Total numbers reach 1,340 metric tons in spring crop seeds, 86,000 tons in fertilizers, 1,965 tons in pesticides, and 386 tons in agricultural films.

Maoming's agriculture and rural bureau has organized experts from the municipal agricultural science and technology extension center to guide the county-level leaders to establish agricultural technical service teams to guide farmers on how to plant crops.

Maoming will guide cooperatives to carry out the maintenance, inspection and debugging of agricultural machinery and tools to ensure their normal operation during spring plowing. This year, Maoming is expected to utilize 46 thousand sets of agricultural machinery with a total power of 300 thousand kilowatts. Land planted by agricultural machinery measures in at 806,000 mu, which accounts for 98 percent of the city's total planted land.

To date, Maoming has built five county-level agricultural production trusteeship service centers, 81 town-level trusteeship service stations, 1,972 village trusteeship officers, 4,266 service organizations, and 22 trusteeship rice production demonstration bases, covering an area of 13,185 mu, with farmlands and planting areas equating to 40,500 mu.
