On March 31, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released a pilot list of State-level coastal fishing port economic zones for 2023 on its official website. The fishing port economic zone in Binhai New Area of Maoming was included in the list.
According to the implementation plan, the construction period of the zone in Binhai New Area of Maoming is three years, with construction starting this year.
The overall project is split into three phases, and includes five categories of fishing port projects. Phase I of the Maoming Bohe Fishing Port Economic Zone includes three projects: Jellyfish Fishing village, the Marine Fishery Industry Park, and the Romantic Coast Bay Park. These projects have a total investment of 1.24 billion yuan ($180 million).
In 2021, the total economic output value of Binhai New Area's fishery industry reached 5.65 billion yuan, with a fishery population of nearly 50,000. Bohe Port ranks first in the province in output, area size, wharf length, and the number of fishing boats.
From January to October 2022, the total output of aquatic products in Bohe town exceeded 152,400 metric tons, with a total output value of about 1.8 billion yuan.
