The TV drama, Madam Qiaoguo, debuted to the public on CCTV-8 and Youku on April 27, gaining nationwide attention.
This TV drama depicts the achievements of Madam Qiaoguo, also known as Madam Xian, who is a famous heroine from Maoming.
Madam Xian was born in what is present-day Maoming in the year 512, during the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-581). She lived through the war era under the Liang (502-557), Chen (557-589), and Sui (581-618) dynasties.
She was a leader in the Baiyue ethnic group, and fought to safeguard national unity, promote ethnic integration, and spread the advanced production of technology.
Madam Xian was praised by the late Chinese Premier, Zhou Enlai (1898-1976), as "China's No 1 heroine" for her kind-heartedness and her loyalty to the country.
Directed by Chen Jian, the drama stars Ye Xuan, Ren Zhong and Jia Yuanyuan. The production is well-made, the plot is intriguing, and the characters are well-rounded. The action scenes use special effects that are eye-catching to viewers. The show attained a "golden time slot" on CCTV-8, which is when TV viewer numbers are at their peak.
This TV drama was shot in Maoming and contains many Maoming elements, thus promoting Maoming to the whole country. One of the filming bases on Nanhai Island has been permanently preserved, and has now become a popular tourist attraction.
