The temperatures in South China's Guangdong province are now deemed by experts as being very optimal for produce and as a result lychees there are growing abundantly.
In fact, Guangdong province is projected to produce about 1.8 million metric tons of lychees in 2023.
Maoming is China's largest lychee production base. Its annual output accounts for roughly one-quarter of the country's total.
In 2021, the planting area for lychees in Maoming reached about 1.4 million mu (93,333 hectares), with an annual output of about 600,000 tons, accounting for about two-fifths of Guangdong's total output.
In recent years, Maoming has vigorously developed an integrated supply chain that includes the processing and sale of lychees, to increase added value and boost local incomes. In fact, the thriving lychee processing industry has given farmers a stable source of sales.
In addition to tapping into overseas markets, Maoming has also expanded its online sales channels by e-commerce and live streaming.
To ensure lychees remain fresh during transportation, Maoming uses room-temperature long-acting preservation technology during shipments, which extends preservation at room temperature from two days to seven days.
