In recent years, Maoming has continued to reform and innovate to boost its rural vitalization.

Last year, Maoming generated a total agricultural output value of 113 billion yuan ($16 billion), an increase of 5.8 percent. For three consecutive years, the agricultural output value has been maintained at more than 100 billion yuan, placing it first in the province.

Maoming is promoting a development model called "five trees, one fish and one table of dishes", and is cultivating a number of modern agricultural industrial clusters worth more than 10 billion yuan.

The term five trees refers to lychees, longans, agarwood, exocarpium citri grandis (also known as Huajuhong, a tree used in traditional Chinese medicine) and Sanhua plums. The one fish refers to tilapia, while the one table of dishes refers to the pre-prepared dishes industry.

Furthermore, Maoming is developing new industries and new forms of business, including rural e-commerce, leisure agriculture and rural tourism. The city is also continuing to reform and innovate to extend its agricultural product supply chain. It's established two State-level modern agricultural industrial parks and 19 provincial-level modern agricultural industrial parks.

He Guifeng, manager of the Huazhou Huajuhong Farmers Professional Cooperative, said that they had innovated the processing method of Huajuhong, processing its fresh fruit into instant preserved fruit, so that Huajuhong is sold both at home and abroad. As a result, sales have increased tenfold.
