The Douzhouxu Cultural and Creative District - located in the Dongzhen sub-district of Xinyi city, in South China's Guangdong province - recently earned the distinction of being recognized as "excellent" at the Maoming Exemplary Market Construction Learning Conference.
Centered around the architectural heritage of Douzhou ancient city, the market seamlessly incorporates six major elements - culture, art, living, dining, entertainment and shopping.
These have proven to be a magnet for a sizable young crowd wanting great shopping opportunities and a cool time.
Since its opening at the end of July this year, Douzhouxu has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors and generated about 20 million yuan ($2.74 million) in revenue.
The architectural style of Douzhouxu is rich with Lingnan and Nanyang heritage, artfully blending traditional culture - particularly Zhenlong town's Liushuang lanterns - attracting numerous tourists.
Here, traditional historical culture blends with modern urban charm.
Notably, Douzhouxu houses China's first art gallery that is dedicated to the art of carving mammoth ivory, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship.
In addition, Douzhouxu offers a range of cultural facilities, including the Douzhou Local Theater, a new public library and a civic park, underscoring its role as a cultural center for Xinyi's residents.
Douzhouxu also serves as a marketing platform for Xinyi's distinctive agricultural products, expanding sales channels for local farmers.
In the future, plans are for Xinyi to further enhance the support facilities of Douzhouxu, thereby providing greater support for the development of rural characteristic industries.
