On Nov 7, China's first special fruit technical trade measures research and evaluation base was established in Maoming.
The base has been approved after passing the evaluation of the National Technical Trade Measures Research and Evaluation Base expert group on Sept 4. It will help enterprises solve export problems, help special fruits get exported abroad, and increase the income of fruit farmers as well as the added value of the industry.
Maoming Laboratory is one of the builders of the special fruit technical trade measures research and evaluation base. It will provide technological support for enterprises, participate in the construction of information sharing platforms, and contribute technological advancements to the import and export trade of special fruits. The lab will also conduct technology regulation research, risk warning, notification evaluation, technical consultation, and exchange training services.
Since its establishment, it has helped Maoming litchi export enterprises get their litchis exported, as the fruit had previously been stranded at the port due to a certain country's modification to the phytosanitary certificate. According to statistics, from January to August this year, Maoming Customs supervised the export of 4,100 metric tons of special fruits, with a value of 77 million yuan ($10.57 million), an increase of 44.7 percent and 23.5 percent, respectively, year-on-year.
