Huazhou, a county-level city administered by Maoming, was named the "Hometown of Longevity" by the China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics on Nov 27 after a three-day on-site inspection by the association in June.

The association's delegation highly praised the city's natural environment, elderly care policies, health support, and retirement services, noting that Huazhou meets the criteria to be recognized as a hometown of longevity in China.

The delegation encouraged Huazhou to fully utilize its resources related to longevity to promote the deep integration of longevity culture and industry and to boost local economic and social development.

Huazhou is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage, with a forest coverage rate of 47.23 percent and an excellent air quality rate of 96.2 percent. It is also known for its abundance of selenium and germanium, which are effective in fighting cancer.

The average life expectancy in Huazhou exceeds the national average by more than two years, and the number of elderly people aged 100 and above has reached 230.

Huazhou is currently striving to develop its distinctive industries and integrate healthcare and elderly care services in an effort to develop the health industry.
