Maoming city in Guangdong province has utilized its winter climate resources to promote the development of a winter vegetable industry.

Currently, Maoming has become one of the largest production bases for winter vegetables in the country. This industry involves over 30 leading Maoming enterprises and more than 600 farming cooperatives.

The products grown in Maoming are sold in 18 provinces and cities nationwide, and the planting area of winter-harvested and northern-shipped vegetables in the city exceeded 43,550 hectares this year, with an expected output of over 1.35 million metric tons.

In response to the different demands of the northern and southern markets, Maoming municipal government formulates a new winter vegetable cultivation plan every year.

The government also guides farmers to cultivate early-maturing and high-quality vegetable varieties. This not only improves efficiency, but also increases income.

The government has enhanced its technical training and guidance efforts, which has improved the skill set of local farmers. They also perform inspections and deny entry to the market to any agricultural products that do not meet quality and safety standards.
