Maoming places heavy importance on water area governance and shoreline management, promotes shoreline greening, and has completed a total length of 25.5 kilometers of ecological shorelines this year. It has established a county-level management mechanism for river and lake cleaning and is working to solve problems such as encroachment on shorelines and littering.

Maoming has also formulated a city-wide water network plan, implemented comprehensive treatment of small and medium-sized rivers, and made up for shortcomings in flood control and water resource utilization. Maoming has also invested approximately 567 million yuan ($79.02 million) in the comprehensive management of the Genzi River.
