Maoming's foreign trade achieves remarkable growth in 2023

In 2023, Maoming's foreign trade totaled 136.1 billion yuan ($18.9 billion), with imports totaling 87.1 billion yuan, an increase of 12.7 percent over the same period last year.

The import volume of crude oil and agricultural products has increased. Maoming Customs optimized the supervision of imported crude oil, with a total import value of 43.1 billion yuan, an increase of 51.3 percent, accounting for 49.5 percent of the city's total import value. At the same time, agricultural product imports reached 10.2 billion yuan, an increase of 22.5 percent, mainly including rapeseed, corn, and other raw materials for local enterprises.

The throughput of foreign trade goods in the Bohe New Port and Jida Port areas also experienced a surge in growth. Maoming Customs facilitated the enlargement of port operations, resulting in the import and export of goods in the Bohe New and Jida Port area reaching 1.52 million metric tons, marking an increase of 167.7 percent. The import and export value also surged to 67.2 billion yuan, demonstrating a rise of 216.3 percent.

Maoming Customs promoted the construction of smart customs and launched the "Maoming Port Logistics Collaboration Platform," saving 20 percent of customs logistics costs for enterprises. At the same time, it promoted the application of the local inspection business management system and the cloud signature mode for export inspection and quarantine certificates to enhance enterprises' sense of acquisition.

In 2023, private enterprises in Maoming achieved an import and export volume of 6.8 billion yuan, constituting 50 percent of the total. State-owned enterprises, reached an import and export value of 4.31 billion yuan, representing 31.7 percent of the total trade activity.
