As the backbone of Zhanjiang's industrial development, the eleven industrial parks (development zones or industry clusters), include one national-level economic and technological development zone and six provincial-level industrial parks.

There is a fifty-square-kilometer petrochemical industrial park, a 30-square-kilometer steel industry cluster, and a 20-square-kilometer forestry-pulp-paper integration industrial base, all of which are under planning and construction, based on the development zone, industrial parks, and the three projects, that is, steel project, petrochemical project, pulp and paper project. Investors from home and abroad are welcome to invest in our parks, or the supporting industries of steel, petrochemicals, and the pulp and paper industries.

With a total area of 469 square kilometers, Zhanjiang economic and technological development zone is one of the biggest national-level development zones in China, and is regarded as the main driver for the wheels of industry. The development zone is characterized as one zone with mutiple parks, including Guangzhou (Zhanjiang) industrial transfer park. Zhanjiang high-tech industrial development zone and another eight industrial parks are under contraction, namely, a petrochemicals industrial park , an industrial transfer park for wheels, a circular high-tech economy, etc. Additionally, Foshan Shunde (Lianjiang) and Shenzhen Longgang (Wuchuan) provincial-level industrial transfer parks are made up of rich land resources，with a favorable investment policy, and complete infrastructure, so the needs of investors can be met .

Fenyong Hi-tech Economic Zone is located in the southwest of Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. This area, once occupied by an Overseas Chinese farm, is now state-owned land. Zhanjiang municipal Party committee and Zhanjiang municipal government have spared no effort to make it the second local economic growth pole. In December, 2011, upon the approval of Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Fenyong Hi-tech Economic Zone was founded as a provincial-level hi-tech zone. Later in June, 2012, it was upgraded into the “Sino-ASEAN Economic Development Zone”. The master planning service is provided by JURONG International, a Singapore Company, focusing on three major sectors – biological medicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, and electronics. At the same time, six industrial parks on comprehensive manufacturing, biological medicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, electronics, logistics, development and reserve, are under planning and construction. The planning area in the first phase is about 1,333 hectares, and the construction of a manufacturing park with an area of 333 hectares has been launched .

The total planning area of Zhanjiang Haidong New Area is about 220 square kilometers, of which 173 square kilometers is land area. It is an ecological bay which serves the purpose of government affairs, finance, high-tech, logistics, tourism, science and education, recreation and sports, entertainment and residence.

Haidong New Area is expected to make itself into urban industrial agglomeration areas, a demonstration base of the marine industry and demonstration base of emerging manufacturing; cultivating and developing a featured cluster for superior industry; and building itself into a marine science and technology center in the South China Sea through cooperation with ASEAN.

Nansan Island Coastal Tourism Pilot Zone, which is only two km away from the downtown, consists of ten islands which are integrated into the main island. Covering a land area of 123.4 square kilometers, the island also has an 83-kilometer long coastline. In 2012, Zhanjiang municipal Party committee and Zhanjiang government decided to build Nansan Island into the center of a coastal tourism area including “Five Islands and One Bay” ,affirming that the city will forge Nansan Island into a national level coastal tourism demonstration zone, winter vacation resort base in South China, the bellwether of the tourism industry and the masterpiece representing the tourism image of the city, and set the management committee of Nansan Island Coastal Tourism Pilot Zone.

Effort should be put into promoting tourism development on Nansan Island, including an array of high-end tourism projects, such as Cruise HomePort, Sports (Golf) Theme Park, and a Military Theme Park; to make concrete efforts to create an excellent project and intensively build up high-level and iconic tourism projects. These projects aim to make Nansan Island a diversified leisure island with subtropical scenery, which is suitable for high-end residences, commercial conferences, vacations, health and recreation and amusement. Characterized as a coastal vacation spot, winter rest and retirement, as well as a home-port, Nansan Island will be the biggest growth pole for the tourist economy in Zhanjiang.
