Suffolk County is located in the east of Long Island in New York State.

Long Island is located on the east coast of North America, to the southeast of New York City. The island, covering an area of 4,356 square kilometers, extends from New York Port to the North Atlantic.

Suffolk County, founded in 1683, is one of first 12 counties in New York State. The county has a population of 1.45 million and covers an area of 6,146 square kilometers.

Suffolk enjoys convenient transportation, as it is connected to Manhattan, New York City, through expressways with many channels and bridges.

The agricultural development in Suffolk is prosperous, with vegetable cultivation, poultry rearing and fishing as major industries.

The county has also made great achievements in scientific research. The National Atomic Energy Research Laboratory established here has been a bellwether in the research of nuclear engineering, high-energy physics, chemistry, life science and nanotechnology. Scientists based in the laboratory have won the Nobel Prize many times.
