At the foot of Xiexieshan Mountain, which is previously known as the Dashan Mountain, lies the Xiexie Village, formerly called the Citonggen Village.

Xiexie is the home of Yang Qin, a successful candidate in the highest imperial civil service examination during the Yongle Reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Yang Qin served as the imperial compiler of the Imperial Academy. Because of his great contributions to the court, the emperor bestowed a pair of shoes to him when he retired, thus the Dashan Mountain was renamed to Xiexieshan Mountain (the mountain that is grateful for the endowed shoes).

The Xiexieshan Mountain is located 5 kilometers west of Lianjiang city, and 40 kilometers away from downtown Zhanjiang. It covers a total area of 1,500 mu (100 hectares), 500 of which is covered with wild lychee trees. It is the only wild lychee wood on the Chinese mainland.

Jia Zuzhang, a well-known popular science writer, wrote that "Lychee has its origin in our country, and it is one of the specialties of our country. There are wild lychee woods in the Hainan Island and Lianjiang County". This shows the rareness of wild lychee woods in China.

The Xiexieshan Mountain boasts luxuriant vegetation, beautiful scenery and refreshing air. It is known as the natural oxygen bar. There are quite a few rare plants such as wild lychee, mangosteen, Chinese olive, agalwood, and camphor tree. According to the survey conducted by Zhanjiang Ocean University, there are 400 kinds of ferns, gymnosperm and angiosperm, which are of significant scientific value.

There are many legends and literature works related to the Xiexieshan Mountain and Yang Qin. The remains that exist today include the Imperial Academy Stone Chair, the Yang Qin Study Room, the Qipan Stone Chair, the Imperial Tribute Garden, the Guifei Lychee Garden, the Fairy Pool, the Dripping Guanyin Temple, the Nine Dragon Bridge, and the Wenxiu Tower. With so many stories, legends and beautiful sceneries, the Xiexieshan Mountain is of historical, cultural and environmental significance. The beautiful scenery of Xiexieshan Mountain is integrated with the profound culture to create the best cultural and ecological attraction.
