The Zhanjiang government is taking efforts to support the steel projects in Zhanjiang by Baosteel Group, the largest steel company in China, in a bid to make Zhanjiang a modernized ecological steel city.

Liu Xiaohua, Party secretary of Zhanjiang, met with Xu Lejiang, chairman of Baosteel Group, on the first day of 2015. Wang Zhongbin, mayor of Zhanjiang city, and Dai Zhihao, general manager of Baosteel Group, also attended the meeting.

The two sides exchanged views about how to speed up steel project construction and coordinate major issues in the construction. Liu and Wang said that the Zhanjiang government will go all out to support project construction and create a good construction environment to ensure that the projects can be put into operation on schedule.

Xu Lejiang expressed his appreciation to the Zhanjiang government for the support of their steel projects in Zhanjiang, which he said was the top priority for Baosteel Group and an important battlefield for Baosteel’s second venture. Xu said they were determined to succeed in Zhanjiang.

The No 1 Generator Set in the Zhanjiang Steel Self-Generation Power Plant was adjusted and tested on the grid for the first time on January 1, which means it was officially put into operation. Xu hoped that Zhanjiang could accelerate relevant infrastructure construction, such as roads, railways and environmental protection facilities.

Liu Xiaohua, Party secretary of Zhanjiang, thanked Baosteel Group for “passing positive energy” to Zhanjiang at the start of 2015. He introduced to the Baosteel Group delegation the economic and social development of Zhanjiang in 2014. Liu also said the steel project was the number one project in Zhanjiang, and serving the steel project construction was the key task for the Zhanjiang government.

Wang Zhongbin, mayor of Zhanjiang city, said the Zhanjiang steel project will prove that the iron and steel industry is not declining, rather it is a sunrise and green industry. Wang also said that the Zhanjiang steel project will create a modernized ecological steel city.
