New ocean liner services from Zhanjiang, Guangdong province to Kuantan and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia started operations on April 3, in a move by the Evergreen Marine Corporation to further optimize Zhanjiang’s shipping market.

The new shipping route, Zhanjiang-Hongkong-Shekou-Hai Phong-Kuantan-Singapore-Tanjung Pelepas-Da Nang-Hai Phong-Qinzhou-Zhanjiang, employs three ships taking weekly shifts.

The new route serves to implement China's Belt and Road Initiative, further enrich Zhanjiang’s container shipping network in Southeast Asia and better serve clients of the global import and export trade.

Official statistics show that Zhanjiang port has processed 198,900 TEU in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year growth of 37.71 percent.
