China's largest shrimp industry forum was held in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province from April 19 to 20.

The 9th China International Shrimp Industry Development Forum discussed shrimp egg cultivation, ways to run the industry, and the global market.

Dubbed China's "capital of shrimp", the coastal city of Zhanjiang has held the forum seven times. More than 300 scientists, businesspeople, and industry experts from China, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia took part in the event.

At the forum, suppliers of shrimp feed were suggested to compete in specific market segments, and share and integrate resources with each other.

"Enterprises should carry out feasibility studies on industrial structure from both macroscopic and microscopic aspects," said Zhang Haitao, aquaculture technical director of Guangdong Evergreen Feed Industry Co.

Local experts also talked about how to breed white-leg shrimp with a feed capable of strengthening immunity and disease resistance.

Zhanjiang supplies about 15 percent of the world's shrimp and 67 percent of the domestic market, according to last year's statistics. The city also supplies significant amounts of tilapia as well as other fish and seafood.

The forum was organized by China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance and Zhanjiang Seafood Importing and Exporting Association.
