Zhanjiang performs at its best on CCTV

A team representing Zhanjiang competed against a team from Qian Dongnan autonomous prefecture of the Miao and Dong ethnic groups and Huanggang in the second round of Charming China recently.

Charming China is a TV program broadcast by CCTV which pits cities against each other in a competition to showcase their natural environment, cultural connotation and urban development.

Opening Zhanjiang's show, mayor Jiang Jianjun witnessed the wedding of Jing Yuting, a soldier from the South China Sea Fleet, to Wang Jia.

Jiang recommended a classic travel route for the couple and all the guests who attended the wedding. He showed them around the Ten-Mile Military Port, Jinsha Bay, Seaview Corridor, Huguang Yan Tourism Circle, Leizhou and Xuwen in a prerecorded video.

Zhanjiang were joined by a strong guest team consisting of famous CCTV host Zhu Jun, crosstalk actor Sun Tao, pop music band Phoenix Legend, actor Wang Jia and actresses Bai Xue and Jing Yuting.

Zhu Jun helped the Zhanjiang team through the first round and continued his good work this time. Phoenix Legend showed their great love for Zhanjiang's seafood and other specialties, followed by actress Bai Xue singing Ocean, my hometown.

Feng Menglong, a famous writer during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), once said that Leizhou drumming was one of the four great marvels of the world, local actors brought it to the stage with original and pristine dances.

Wuchuan Piaose was also performed, with children aged between six and 12 held aloft on a hidden steel bar, dressed in red and holding lanterns to echo the theme of the wedding.

Longwan Lion Dance Troupe from Zhanjiang's Suixi county performed lion dance with martial arts, deeply impressing the audience. The climax of the performance featured an eagle playing with a lion and soaring high in the sky.

The program will be broadcast on the Finance Channel of China Central Television 2 (CCTV2) on Nov 17.
