A discussion was held between Zhanjiang city mayor Jiang Jianjun and senior leaders of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) on Dec 5 to seek cooperation and push forward the implementation of military-civilian integration strategy.

Founded in 1999, CSIC is a leading state-owned enterprise mainly engaged in shipbuilding and equipment manufacturing. With a total asset base of $62.95 billion, it is also the only company in the Chinese shipbuilding industry listed on the Fortune Global 500.

At the meeting, Jiang started with a brief introduction of the city. As a pivot city along the Belt & Road, Zhanjiang is faced with unprecedented opportunities riding on a new round of development. Not only has it expedited the construction of traffic infrastructure, it also has grown its iron and steel, petrochemical and papermaking industries.

According to Jiang, Zhanjiang is a big city housing a raft of troops, which gives it an exceptional edge in implementing the military-civilian integration strategy. CSIC is an established powerhouse in ship and equipment manufacturing. The cooperation between the two sides is essentially an alliance between giants.

CSIC has always paid close attention to Zhanjiang which is distinguished by its geographical advantages, abundant marine resources and phenomenal economic growth. The two parties have huge cooperation potential in areas such as ecological protection and offshore wind power, said vice general manager Qian Jianping.

The company has already committed to the 2017 China Marine Economy Expo, which will be held in Zhanjiang from Dec 14 to 17.
