The 2nd Session of the 13th Zhanjiang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened at the Zhanjiang International Convention Center on Jan 16.

During the three-day convention, 433 CPPCC members of the municipal committee will perform their duty by participating in debates regarding governmental affairs. Proposals based off the discussions will be made in order to advance the city's social and economic undertakings.

Xu Shun, chairman of the 13th CPPCC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee, delivered a work report on behalf of the Standing Committee, which reviewed the year of 2017 across six aspects while outlining the goals for the upcoming year.

Furthermore, Xu added that, in the new era, all CPPCC members will continue to uphold the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, by pledging their all to assist Zhanjiang become a core city in the Beibu Gulf and sub-center city of Guangdong province.

According to the report, the 13th CPPCC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee has once again placed a great emphasis on learning from advanced political theory and insisted on the absolute leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Highlighted were contributions that the committee had made towards establishing the Zhanjiang Scientific, Educational and Cultural Development Foundation. The launch of township-level liasion offices and the adoption of a quantitive assessment method to evaluate its officials were also lauded at the conference.

Lin Jiaping, vice chairman of the CPPCC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee, stated in his report that the committee had received 194 proposals since the 1st session. Of them, 154 had been filed upon examination.

Fifty-three suggestions made by the CPPCC members have been completely adopted, accounting for 34.4 percent of the total. Other 91 pieces of advice will be partially adpoted or executed in the future.

Moreover, a total of 13 proposals and 33 outstanding CPPCC members were cited for awards at the meeting.

Seated on the rostrum were Party Chief Zheng Renhao, Mayor Jiang Jianjun and other senior officials from Zhanjiang Municipal Party Committee, Standing Committee of Zhanjiang Municipal People's Congress and Zhanjiang Municipal People's Government.
