Zhanjiang will take multiple measures to ensure the smooth operations during the upcoming Spring Festival travel rush from Feb 1 to March 12, despite surging passenger flow and possible bad weather conditions.

It is estimated that the city will receive about 7.25 million passengers during the period, which is basically the same as that of last year. The number of road trips will drop by 2.5 percent to reach 4.71 million, while train trips will grow by 11 percent to 260,000.

In the meantime, some 150,000 people are likely to travel by air, a jump of 23 percent from the previous year, while boat trips are predicted to reach 2.13 million during the period, up 10 percent year-on-year.

Zhanjiang transportation authorities have been fully prepared and confident for this year's travel rush. A total of 2,788 medium or large-sized coaches will be available to 90,144 passengers, as the Qiongzhou Straits will have four ferries and 49 ro-ro passenger ships carry 46,387 passengers at that time.

In accordance with the contingency plan, 35 coaches, 20 trucks as well as three hazardous-article transporting vehicles will also be on standby in case of any emergencies.
