Zhanjiang Party Chief Zheng Renhao and Mayor Jiang Jianjun led a delegation to visit Macao on Aug 17 at the invitation of He Houhua, vice president of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

At the meeting, He was first given a rundown of Zhanjiang's socioeconomic development. The city, poised as a sector for growth in Guangdong province, has made great headway in transport infrastructure and investment attraction.

Construction on the Baosteel Zhanjiang and Sino-Kuwait refinery and petrochemical projects are progressing quickly, while industrial heavyweights such as BASF and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation also plan to invest in the city.

The visit was meant to promote Zhanjiang's burgeoning presence in Macao and enhance the economic and trade cooperation between two cities. Breakthroughs are expected to be made in their cooperative mode in the context of Mainland and HK Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Framework Agreement, said Zheng.

He Houhua spoke highly of Zhanjiang's achievements in pushing forward innovation-driven development and transforming and upgrading of industries.

He pointed out that the cooperation between the two cites has a solid foundation and comes at a good time. The cities should give full play to their strengths, one being a trade platform access point to Portuguese-speaking countries and the other being gifted with deep-sea harbors and large potential for development.
