The Zhanjiang Intangible Cultural Heritages Center announced at a press conference on Aug 20 that Zhanjiang will launch a cultural & creative products design contest based on intangible cultural heritages, the first of its kind in the city.
The contest is open to nationwide individuals, enterprises and social organizations. It calls for submissions in the five categories of crafts, cultural and tourist souvenirs, film, television and animation, spin-off products, and garments.
All of them should be original pieces that draw on the modern appeal of Zhanjiang intangible cultural heritages with an innovative and fashionable design.
The city is abundant in intangible cultural resources. It is home to eight state-level intangible cultural heritages, 45 provincial intangible cultural heritages and 74 municipal intangible cultural heritages, according to Wang Mingpeng, director of the center.
On the one hand, the event is aimed at preserving local intangible cultural heritages and helping them take on new life in the contemporary era. On the other hand, it is intended to foster a group of outstanding cultural & creative talents, enterprises and brands in the city.
