A cooperation agreement was signed between Zhanjiang Shuangshuangying Custard Apple Production Base and Taitung County Custard Apple Cooperative on Aug 20 to push forward the transformation and upgrading of the custard apple industry.

Custard apple is a heart-shaped tropical fruit with brownish skin, juicy freshness, and a sweet taste. The two parties will work together to explore ways of increasing the yield and quality of the fruit through improvements in breeding, lesion prevention, and pest control.

With a plantation area of over 500 mu (33 hectares), Zhanjiang Shuangshuangying Custard Apple Production Base is the largest of its kind in Guangdong province, and its products are sold throughout the country. 

The 30-year-old Taitung County Custard Apple Cooperative is an important custard apple plantation base in Asia. It enjoys a solid reputation and advanced technology. The cooperative, seeing a lot of potential in its Zhanjiang peer, sent a delegation to the city to investigate the production base.  

The cooperation will motivate the custard apple plantation to be more efficient and environmentally friendly, and help local impoverished farmers out of poverty, according to the general manager of Zhanjiang Shuangshuangying Custard Apple Production Base.
