Zhanjiang West Railway Station received nearly 110,000 passengers during the week-long National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, ranking first in western Guangdong in terms of passenger volume, according to Xiong Kaiyu, head of the station.
Daily passenger flow peaked on the last day of the holiday, with more than 180,000 departures and more than 160,000 arrivals being tallied at the railway station.
To meet the surging travel demand, there were about 30 pairs of CRH (China Railway High-speed) bullet trains connecting Zhanjiang with other domestic cities every day.
Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, and Changsha were the most popular travel destinations. Trains heading for these cities had eight additional passenger cars during the holiday, providing 613 extra seats.
Support facilities are currently being improved in preparation for the 2019 Spring Festival travel rush. The parking lot will add 200 to 300 more parking spots, and two public lavatories will be built near the square of the railway station, said Xiong.
