The feasibility of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway was reviewed at a conference in Zhanjiang on Dec 26.

Discussion was held among experts from China Railways Corporation, Guangdong Provincial Railway Construction Investment Group Co Ltd, Guangzhou Railway (Group) Corporation, and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co Ltd.

Officials from the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and cities along the railway also attended.

The 408.5-kilometer railway will start in Guangzhou and pass through Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, and Maoming before terminating in Zhanjiang.

Passengers destined for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan metropolitan area can transfer to the Beijing-Kowloon, Beijing-Guangzhou, or Hangzhou-Fuzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railways in Guangzhou. Those bound for the Beibu Gulf rim or Hainan Island can transfer to the Hepu-Zhanjiang or Zhanjiang-Haikou railways in Zhanjiang.

The new high-speed railway, which will cut travel time between Zhanjiang and the Pearl River Delta to around 90 minutes, will bring western Guangdong closer to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and promote the coordinated development of the region.
