The Zhanjiang Senior Service Center, a major livelihood project funded by the local government, came into use on Dec 24.

Covering an area of 70.29 mu (4.7 hectares), the service center is built to the provincial standards for five-star nursing institutions. It offers 656 ordinary beds, 60 medical beds, apartments for the elderly and a canteen that can accommodate 1,200 people.

In addition to a professional nursing team, the facility is equipped with advanced rehabilitation and fitness equipment, and houses the Zhanjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Hospital to provide healthcare for the elderly.

Recreational facilities include an activity hall, and rooms for writing calligraphy, painting and playing cards. Seniors can also sign up for courses on calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting and piano.

A total of 11 senior citizens have already checked into the service center.
