The lion dance is a traditional dance in which performers wear a lion costume and mimic a lion's movements in order to bring good luck and fortune. High-stakes lion dances are more challenging and exciting, as they require dancers to perform on stilts while carrying a lion head and sometimes their partner.

The competition is aimed at further promoting the lion dance across the world, said Liang Litang, vice president of the International Dragon and Lion Dance Federation.
