Lychees are ripening in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang, Guangdong province and the tasty fruit grown in Beijie village in Xuwen will be available on the market in about 10 days.

Zheng Feiliang, owner of a 110-mu (7.3-hectare) lychee plantation in Beijie village, said the lychees are of high quality due to more sufficient sunshine and less rain than last year, and many merchants have already come to make orders.

He said that he began to plant Lychees in 2015 and this is his first harvest year. The lychees will come into season in 10 days, a week earlier than lychees in other places.

Beijie village has a population of over 1,100. Before 1994, the villagers mainly relied on planting eucalyptus for a living which has low economic benefits. In 1995, lychees were introduced in the village from Gaozhou, greatly boosting the local economy.

According to Zheng, under the guidance of the local government to boost rural revitalization, famers in his village have changed their old planting models and currently there are 1,200 mu lychee plantations.
