The construction of Baosteel Zhanjiang's coking and gas refining project of its third blast furnace system kicked off in the coastal city of Zhanjiang, Guangdong province on June 25.

The project mainly includes two coke ovens, as well as supporting systems for coke dry quenching (CDQ) and gas refining. It was designed to be put into operation in May 2021 with an annual production of 1.6 million tons of coke.

Advanced production technologies would be employed in the project to realize smokeless coal charging and the coke ovens' full-mechanized operation.

The project was designed by ACRE Coking & Refractory Engineering Consulting Corporation, MCC and implemented by China MCC5 Group Corp Ltd under the supervision of Shanghai Baosteel Engineering Consulting Co Ltd. Representatives from the three companies said that they would learn from previous experiences and capitalize on the best resources to construct the project to make sure it would be put into use on time. The iron-making group of Baosteel Zhanjiang also ensured the whole implementation process would be under monitor and control.
