Aquatic skills competition to launch in Zhanjiang

The first National Aquatic Skills Competition for College Students will be held at the Huguang Campus of Guangdong Ocean University in Zhanjiang, South China's Guangdong province from Nov 22 to 24.

The competition has attracted 54 universities and colleges, with 300 contestants expected to participate in it. The competition focuses on the assessment of students' basic knowledge and practical ability, including: blood and lymph extraction; anatomy and classification of shrimp and crab; fish anatomy and classification; identification of plankton species; detection of aquaculture water quality indicators; identification and formulation design of feed raw materials; as well as routine inspection of diseased fish and identification of common fish diseases.

The competition mainly aims to provide a platform for exhibitions, exchanges, and experiences between students, colleges, and enterprises in aquaculture. It is also expected that the competition will enhance students' interest in and improve the influence of aquatic disciplines.

The competition has won the support of 12 well-known enterprises in Zhanjiang. It will further strengthen cooperation between colleges and enterprises, promote resource sharing, as well as cultivate high-quality compound application talents.
