The pre-approval announcement of the Special Planning of the Trunk Road Network in Zhanjiang (draft) was issued by the Zhanjiang natural resource bureau on Oct 29 to seek public consultation.

To support the construction of the provincial sub-center city and to build an important development hub of the modern coastal economic belt, Zhanjiang has carried out the special planning of the trunk road network to comprehensively guide the planning, design, and construction of the city’s high speed roads and trunk roads.

Covering a land area of 2,216.92 square kilometers, the scope of the road network planning includes Zhanjiang's municipal districts, Jianxin town and Huangluo town of Tunxi county, Tangduo town of Wuchuan, Liwu village of Huangpo town, and Fenyong Economic Zone.

The planning period is divided into three phases: 2018-2020, 2021-2035, and 2035-2050. It aims to build a road network system that is closely connected to the arterial highway network and the urban trunk road network.

The planning includes the construction of a 965-kilometer highway network, which mainly undertakes transit traffic, port traffic, and external traffic, ensuring rapid access to various cities. It also includes a 220-kilometer fast road network that provides convenient links for the main traffic sources inside and around the city, as well as the main road network in Zhanjiang to ensure the rapid distribution of traffic from external highways and the city's fast roads.
