Macao, Zhanjiang seek cooperation in medical care

A delegation of the Macao Chinese Medical Association visited Zhanjiang from Oct 31 to Nov 3, promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the field of medical care.

The delegation was led by Shao Bin, assistant director general of the Publicity Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and Liu Dongni, president of the Macao Chinese Medical Association.

The person in charge of the Zhanjiang health bureau briefly introduced the economic and social development of the city, as well as the reform of the city's health service system at the Zhanjiang-Macao Medical Health Exchange and Cooperation Symposium, which was held on Nov 1.

Zhanjiang has achieved remarkable results in promoting the development of its health industry. By the end of 2018, a total of 3,478 medical and health institutions were established in the city and 36,692 beds were provided in medical institutions.

The city-level medical and health service capacity ranked seventh in Guangdong province, with the urban hospitalization rate reaching 96.7 percent, and the county-level medical and health service capacity ranking 12th in the province, with the average hospitalization rate reaching 81 percent.

The delegation also went to the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University, Zhanjiang Central People's Hospital, Zhanjiang Planning Museum, the city of Leizhou, and Xuwen county to learn about healthcare services, health personnel training, and public health services.
