The city of Zhanjiang has focused on its real economy, developing its port industry, coastal tourism, and agriculture in recent years to form an improved modern industry system.
Zhanjiang has accelerated the development of its port industry. Relying on the advantages of its port resources and the national comprehensive transportation hub, the city has accelerated the construction of a world-class, green, and high-end coastal port-based heavy industry base, attracting four major port-based industries with an investment of over $10 billion.

The city is committed to developing coastal tourism. Zhanjiang has laid out 22 key coastal tourism investment projects in 2019 to promote the tourism development of the Leizhou Peninsula. The city is expected to receive more than 60 million tourists this year, an increase of 16 percent year-on-year, generating tourism revenue of over 60 billion yuan ($8.56 billion), an increase of 17.37 percent year-on-year.

Zhanjiang has achieved fruitful achievements in featured agriculture. Based on climate and resource advantages, the agricultural industry of Zhanjiang continues to exert its strength. It is estimated that the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery will reach 87.17 billion yuan in 2019, an increase of 5.4 percent.

By adjusting and optimizing the structure of the plant industry, Zhanjiang has formed a number of large-scale, specialized agricultural production bases with special characteristics. It has also developed ocean fishing and marine pastures by introducing two national oceanic pasture projects. The city has also focused on the development of deep processing of agricultural and marine products. The number of the city's agricultural product processing enterprises has grown to more than 2,000.
