The opening ceremony of the Xinliao offshore wind power project was held in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang, on Dec 27, injecting new vitality into the city's rapid economic development, as well as making new contributions to its energy conservation and emission reduction efforts.

Invested in and constructed by Zhanjiang Wind Power Co, a subsidiary of Guangdong Energy Group, the project is located in Xinliao town, Xuwen county, and the farthest point is 16 kilometers from the shore.

The total investment of the project is about 3.7 billion yuan ($529.55 million) and the total construction capacity of the project is about 200,000 kilowatts. The project will install 32 offshore wind turbines with a single capacity of 6.45 mW, and is expected to have an annual power generation of 500 million kWh. After completion, it can save about 150,000 tons of standard coal consumption each year, as well as reduce emissions by 410,000 tons of carbon dioxide, 16 tons of soot, 56 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 81 tons of nitrogen oxide.

After the project is put into operation, it will bring considerable economic and environmental benefits, providing a strong boost for Guangdong province's efforts to adjust and optimize its energy structure, as well as contributing to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's efforts to construct a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.
