After two days of initial rescue, an injured stranded green sea turtle gradually resumed its activities under the scientific guidance of experts and the joint forces of different departments of Leizhou. It has been transferred to the Guangdong Aquatic Wildlife Animal Conservation Base on Naozhou Island for further treatment.

On the afternoon of Jan 7, the staff of the Leizhou agriculture and rural bureau quickly rushed to the scene responding to public tip-offs. The staff asked help from experts of the Guangdong Aquatic Wildlife Animal Conservation Base, bolstering the initial rescue work from a local aquaculture professional cooperative in arranging indoor aquaculture ponds, adjusting the water quality, and maintaining the water temperature for the injured green sea turtle.

After preliminary identification, the turtle was confirmed to be an adult green sea turtle, which is a national second-class protected animal. It was about 110 centimeter long, 82 cm wide, and weighed about 64 kilograms. Green sea turtles are one of the largest hard-shell turtles and had been included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species in 2004.
