The Zhanjiang delegation held a plenary meeting after Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui reported on government work at the third session of the 13th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, which opened in Guangzhou on Jan 14.
"Zhanjiang will adhere to high-level planning, investment promotion, supporting facilities, and services to build a modern port industrial cluster," said Jiang Jianjun, mayor of Zhanjiang, at the plenary meeting.
On Nov 23, 2019, with the joint efforts of the country, Guangdong province, as well as its cities and enterprises, the BASF (Guangdong) Integrated Base project began construction in Zhanjiang. As China's first wholly foreign-owned large-scale petrochemical integration project, the BASF project has attracted great attention from all involved parties.
The total investment of the BASF project is $10 billion and the first unit of the project will be put into operation in 2022. The entire integrated base is expected to be completed in 2030. After completion, Zhanjiang will form a large-scale modern petrochemical base with world-class technology.
In addition to building a port industrial cluster for the modern petrochemical industry, Zhanjiang has seized the opportunity to carry out supply-side structural reforms, actively introducing leading large projects to create high-quality large clusters. The city also set up a professional laboratory to support the industrial agglomeration of the Zhanjiang marine equipment industry.
Jiang also stressed that with the improvement of transportation infrastructure, the city has attracted a number of central enterprises and leading technology enterprises in recent years, such as Overseas Chinese Town Holdings Company, China State Shipbuilding Co, Tencent, and Alibaba.
