Transport vehicles fully loaded with pineapples departed from Xuwen county, Zhanjiang to Japan on April 8, marking the first time that Xuwen pineapples were exported to Japan.

"The export of Xuwen pineapples to Japan is a new beginning for the exports of Guangdong's agricultural products," said Luo Huilan, head of the exchanges and cooperation division of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

"It has a positive effect on enhancing the confidence of agricultural products export enterprises in Guangdong to resume production during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pneumonia, and expanding Guangdong's agricultural products exports in the future," added Luo.

Sales of pineapples in Xuwen were greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, measures like online live streaming and shooting short videos were taken out by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Xuwen county government to bolster their sales. 

Xuwen pineapples, which boast good quality and high yield, also attracted the attention of Chen Yaohua, president of Guangdong Zhongli Agricultural Group, who took the initiative to create conditions for Xuwen pineapples to be exported to Japan.
