Zhanjiang is pressing ahead with the construction of the relocation project of Zhanjiang Airport, while continuing to implement measures to prevent and control the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. Currently, 80 percent of the main concrete structure of the terminal building has been completed.

The construction work in the terminal area and the movement area is in full operation, while construction of the steel structure and the curtain wall of the terminal building will be started in the near future.

The relocation project of Zhanjiang Airport began construction on Oct 19, 2019. It is a major project to promote the high quality development of Guangdong's civil aviation and to make Zhanjiang an engine driving economic growth in west Guangdong.

The first phase of the project includes building a runway of 3,200 meters in length and 45 meters in width, an equilong parallel taxiway, 30 parking spaces, a terminal building with a combined floor area of 61,800 square meters, as well as operational support facilities. It will have the capacity to meet an annual passenger throughput of 5.1 million, as well as a cargo and mail throughput of 31,000 metric tons by 2030.

It is expected that construction of the movement area and the terminal building will be completed by the end of 2021, while that of the overall project will be finished in the first half of 2022.
