Engineer from Baosteel Zhanjiang wins national honorary title

Chen Jiong, deputy commander of the engineering headquarters of Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Co, was recently awarded the title National Engineering Survey and Design Master by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD).

The National Engineering Survey and Design Master is a national-level honorary title for the engineering survey and design industry. Its selection is conducted every two years by the MOHURD and covers 28 majors in the engineering survey and design industry.

Chen has been engaged in structural design of industrial buildings since 1985. He has participated in many important projects and has been carrying on the theoretical research in practice. He created a new method for pile foundation, developed the new methods of seismic design of steel structures in industrial buildings, and established the light enclosure technology system of industrial buildings with high wind resistance in typhoon zones.

In addition, Chen pioneered the development of corrosion resistant PHC piles in China, which are widely used in the construction of coastal reclamation foundations.

Since 2011, Chen has taken charge of the design and scientific research of the civil construction projects of Baosteel Zhanjiang, solving many engineering and technical problems, as well as contributing greatly to the company's winning of the Project Excellence Awards of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), known as the "Nobel Prize" of engineering.

Chen also boasts two national invention patents and nine patents for utility models. He has published more than 20 scientific papers, and is the main draftsman or chapter director of five national standards. He has also won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.
