Zhanjiang in South China's Guangdong province received 1.72 million visitors during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, generating 870 million yuan ($1.23 million) in total tourism revenue, according to the city's bureau of culture, radio, television, tourism and sports.
The city launched various activities and five tourism routes covering food, accommodation, traveling, shopping, and entertainment to attract visitors during this year's May Day holiday. Rural tourism, night tours, and ecological tourism were of great popularity among visitors.
In addition, several strict measures for the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were carried out to ensure visitors' safety, including receiving body temperature measurements before entering scenic spots, booking tickets online, and entering scenic spots during different time periods.
