Lin Shuixi, a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), vice-chairman of the Guangdong Federation of Industry & Commerce, and chairman of Zhanjiang-based Jinling Group, said that it is urgent to raise the standard of basic pensions for certain insured groups in order to ensure that seniors will be looked after properly.

In order to truly reflect the aspirations of people at the grassroots level, Lin spent eight months investigating the relevant issues of the elderly before the opening of this year's NPC.

"I'm a deputy from the grassroots level and mainly prepared my own suggestions to the NPC on pressing issues concerning rural people," said Liu Xiaoquan, who is also a deputy to the 13th NPC and a member of the CPC Wuliang Village Committee in Suixi county, Zhanjiang.

Liu proposed five suggestions to the NPC, four of which focus on issues relating to agriculture, rural areas, and rural residents, such as household garbage sorting and disposal in rural areas.

I hope that relevant government authorities will introduce more favorable policies that are beneficial to farmers and agriculture, further improve the living environment in rural areas, as well as promote rural revitalization, Lin added.
