Zhanjiang in South China's Guangdong province recently launched six measures to serve the construction of the Hainan free trade port and boost the development of the Qiongzhou Strait Economic Belt.

Situated between the Leizhou Peninsula in Zhanjiang and Hainan Island, the Qiongzhou Strait is one of the three largest straits in China.

The measures involve promoting the integrated development of ports and shipping in the Qiongzhou Strait, promoting the opening of the Nanshan Port in Xuwen county, establishing a safety supervision system for ro-ro passenger ships, cracking down on illegal maritime transportation, as well as building rapid marine transit to shorten the traffic time between the two sides of the Qiongzhou Strait.
