Liang Yiyuan, a citizen from Lianjiang, a county-level city of Zhanjiang, was selected to be among the most beautiful eco- environmental volunteers in China for 2020, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on June 5.
A total of 101 people from across the county won the national honor, including four from Guangdong province.
Liang is a volunteer at the Lianjiang Wildlife Rescue Center, which is a non-profit non-governmental eco-environmental protection station dedicated to promoting the harmonious coexistence of people and animals.

In July 2007, Liang contracted an uncultivated land, which is 3 kilometers from the estuary of the Jiuzhou River, and named it Taohua (Peach Blossom) Island to build a habitat for migratory birds.
Since then, Liang has been dedicated to forest planting on the island, as well as the construction of protected corridors for animals, artificial caves, and hives. After dozens of years of ecological environment construction, the island has been turned into an area of lush vegetation, becoming a widely known non-governmental migratory bird reserve.
In addition, Liang raised funds to build a cultural room themed on migratory birds to do extensive publicity about eco-environmental protection.
He has also cooperated with local public security organs to strengthen anti-poaching and anti-smuggling activities.
