The Coral Reef National Nature Reserve in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang was chosen as one of the 30 provincial nature education bases for the year of 2020, according to the notification released by the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Department on July 7.
The selection of provincial nature education bases is aimed to promote the standardized development of the province's nature education, as well as improve the service level of nature education bases.
Special plans should be developed by these provincial nature education bases before October to play a leading role in service level, operation and management, talents, curriculum design, as well as infrastructure construction.
Located in the southwest of the Leizhou Peninsula, the coral reef nature reserve was upgraded to a national nature reserve in April 2007. It covers an area of more than 14,000 hectares, and is currently the most well-preserved and largest contiguous coral reef reserve in China with the largest concentration of coral species.
