The opening ceremony of the summer youth camp, jointly organized by the Communist Youth League of Zhanjiang, the Communist Youth League of Chikan district, and the Zhanjiang maritime safety administration, was held on Aug 4.

More than 30 teenagers, as well as 40 teachers and students from Sanjiang county in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, which Zhanjiang is paired with to help the county build new infrastructure and promote local development, took part in the summer camp.

Performances like poetry recitations, choruses, and an environmental protection-themed fashion show were staged by students at the opening ceremony.

The summer camp will last two and a half days, in which students will visit the Zhanjiang Planning Museum, the naval vessels of the Zhanjiang maritime safety administration, Jinsha Bay Sea View Corridor, as well as many other historical, cultural, and red tourism scenic areas in Zhanjiang. They will also take part in charity sales and learn how to bake.

The summer camp is mainly aimed at enhancing young people's patriotic awareness and self-protection awareness of drowning prevention, as well as to help teenagers from both places make friends and leave good memories for each other, said a person in charge of the summer camp organizers.
