A batch of home appliance packages were checked and released by the Zhanjiang Cross-border E-commerce Public Industrial Center on Aug 20, marking the successful start of the cross-border e-commerce '9610' export business in the city.

The '9610 business' (9610 is a customs supervision code) refers to the new cross-border e-commerce business supervision model, which was created in February 2014. Under this model, customs staff only need to review a list of export commodities submitted in advance by cross-border e-commerce enterprises, and they will release the goods after passing the review. It improves efficiency and reduces the cost of customs clearance.

"The success of the 9610 export business will widen the export channel of cross-border e-commerce in Zhanjiang, and further optimize the export process for enterprises, improving the efficiency of customs clearance," said an official at the city's bureau of commerce.

It will also provide some experience ahead of the city's launching of its cross-border e-commerce B2B export business from Sept 1, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the city's foreign trade industry, and boost the development of the city's open economy, added the official.

Zhanjiang was approved by the State Council to establish a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce on May 6.
